Harold Wood Sports Association Statement released 15th February 2008
UPDATE ON THE REBUILDING OF HAROLD WOOD PARK SPORTS PAVILION
Harold Wood Sports Association is pleased to be able to provide the following update.
Firstly, we would like to apologise for the delay and lack of information that has been made available over the last few months. This was due to a combination of design and financial issues and a legal obligation during the tendering process to keep all information confidential. We very much appreciate everyone’s patience during this period.
After a lot of time and hard work, Harold Wood Sports Association can now confirm that full funding for the rebuilding and improvement of the pavilion in Harold Wood Park has been achieved. The total cost of this project is now just under £1million. This has been raised by various grants received from the Football Foundation, England and Wales Cricket Board, the Jack Petchey Foundation, Havering Council, by donations from members of all three clubs, the local community and businesses and our friends from other local sports clubs. A fantastic effort by all.
After a rigorous and thorough tendering process, Elliot Fastrack Construction has been selected as the company to build what we confidently believe will be, once completed, one of the best facilities of its type in the county. This decision still has to be ratified by the Football Foundation, but we do not envisage this being a problem. The building will be the full design that we set out to achieve including; eight self contained changing rooms and a club room. This will enable the park’s facilities to be used by many more people within the community, which as an association we welcome.
The time scales for construction and completion are due to be finalised in the next few weeks. Contracts are being drawn up this week and below is an approximate timetable:
· 1-2 weeks completion of contracts.
· 4-6 weeks finalisation of the pavilion design and the commencement of preliminary factory construction.
· After this period we have been informed by Elliot’s that a period of a further 23 weeks will be required before hand over of the new pavilion to HWSA.
An update on these timescales will be given once more definite information is available.
Whilst the final completion date may be disappointing to some people, we are sure you will agree that the wait will be worthwhile. It will be great each week during the summer to see the building grow out of the remains of what had been a ‘second home’ to so many of us within the community. We would like to take this opportunity in thanking Havering Council, in particular Don Stewart, for the help, co-operation and the last minute extra funding which has enabled us to achieve our dream of a new pavilion. We would also like to extend this thanks to Geoff Smith, Ray Bysouth, Daren Brown, Russell Grainger and Mark Fowles for the many hours and hard work they have all put into this project.
Finally we would like to thank everyone for their patience and support over the last couple of years.
If any further information is required please contact Geoff Smith on 07763778269.
